Laundry will never be the same

It's started already! I have washed a Chapstick (bribe for potty training), several stickers (thank goodness for Goo Be Gone), and now I am finally checking pockets. Today, out of my own jean pocket, I found 7 broken hair ties, 3 almonds and a mitten. Feels like the start of a Christmas song!

What a night...

Carter and I are in VA with our friends, Nanny Lisa (Carter's godmother), Big Jon and Deacon. Tonight, after a fun filled afternoon of leaf throwing, sliding, running, tumbling, you name it, Carter needed a bath! During bath, she grabbed up Elmo and Mickie Mouse, held them tight and started whispering, "I got you!", "I got you!". At first, I thought she had captured them and was letting them know they were her prisoners. Then I heard the rest of it as she held them tighter, "I got you, you're safe, don't worry, I got you". Love that kid!

Frankenstein walk

Appropriately for Halloween and 1st birthdays, Adeline has started walking! Slow, thoughtful, tiny, halting baby steps. But man that girl can move! Carter, watch out girlfriend, your life as you know it, is over.

Weekend at the lake

It's good to hang with friends for the weekend. Even better when it's at their lake house!

A few of my favorite things

There are things about your kids you hope you will always remember.

Just in case....

Today on the way home, Carter was complaining about the sun being hot in her eyes. (She means bright.) As I was explaining the difference between hot and bright, she starts saying, "tank you tees".

"Carter, are you saying thank you to the trees?"

"Yes mommy, see."

I did see, the trees were blocking the sun every so often. And she was grateful.

Thank you trees!

One happy baby!

Big girl!

98% for height, 75% for head and weight! My girls take after their daddy for sure!

Our first real family vacation

Going very well so far. We made it to the beach, Carter played in the waves, Adeline slept in the sand. We have floated in the pool, lounged in the hot tub. Stayed up too late and gotten up too early! Eaten some great meals, had a made to order donut, amazing cocktails. Carter ran bare foot on the board walk, Adeline has had her meals on the beach, the boardwalk, all over.
They are both learning to float. Carter thinks she can swim! Adeline thinks she's funny! Yesterday while we were lounging, mom in the sun, Addie in the shade, Carter took time running back and forth to pat both of our backs and shush us so we could sleep. :-) so many fun memories already and we are less than half way through it! I love a full week vaca!

Airplane

Once again, here we are, on the plane. Carter asleep on daddy, Adeline passed out on mommy, all is well. Mommy and Daddy are getting some reading time in. Carter is apparently dreaming of partying! She just lifted her hands, did a little rock out and then clapped and cheered, "yay!". Right back to passed out! I love these girls!

Nein Nein Nein Ok Fein

Seems like a totally appropriate first mani pedi color for a toddler, right?

Book time out

When is it too early to put your kid on a book time out? I never thought it would come before she could actually read.

Parent Fail

Do not try to put fake tattoos on your children before they are ready. It will end badly for everyone.

Crawling, laughing, playing

My little bundle of joy is about to be off to the races! Backwards crawling has started, she is playing with her big sister and giggling up a storm! I love seeing these two interact. What a joy and blessing. I am also amazed everyday at their love of Daddy and Mommy and how we all seem to grow in that love daily. Lifting each other up literally and figuratively.

Big sister

Looking out, holding hands, teaching the little one how to dance, alerting the world when she cries because little sister should be tended to immediately, showing her "knuckles", wiping her tears...Carter has this big sister thing down...and Adeline seems to love every minute of it!

Loving life!

Daughters are the best! I love the way my girls love each other. Always looking for each other. Carter asks for Adeline every morning if she's still asleep, or squeals with delight when she comes down the stairs and sees her sister already waiting for her. Adeline gazes in wonder at her sister, watches her every move and is clearly waiting for the day when she can run after her. I love watching these girls grow up. I am one lucky lady!

Lazy weekends

Love a good weekend at home with the family. I had book club with the ladies Friday night, we hit Costco and the grocery Sat, friends over Sat afternoon for a little play time, swings, rock wall and bedtime. Then an adult dinner with crab stuffed tomatoes, asparagus risotto, pesto rack of lamb and a caramel banana chocolate tart. Cocktails included a gin gin mule, red bell pepper martini, scotch and maybe a little wine. Sunday, waffles, church, friends, laundry, planted some rose bushes, patio time and a salmon and cream cheese dinner. Delicious!

Washey

How in the world does lotion become washey? We don't speak baby talk. We always try to correct her, but lotion is a firm washey. I hope she grows out of it, but I hope I get it on video first.

Made my day!

Thanks for this great text today:

"I was going over with Leona all of the kids that will be here tonight. When we got to Carter she said "oh and Mike and Claire. Oh Claire, I love her. Carter loves her too" Claire, you're loved!"

We have some amazing friends!

Reasons my son is crying...

Is one of the funniest things I have ever seen!

I may have to start a day for reasons my daughters are crying. This is classic!

Snuggles

Adeline, I am trying my best, but it's true, there are less pictures of you. It is partly your sisters fault and mostly mine and a little bit yours. You are just so snugly! You and I cuddle a lot more. Carter was not so snugly, she was a little more independent. It was easier to take pictures. You and I are almost always cuddling. It makes it hard to get to a camera. But I wouldn't trade our time for anything. I only hope you can appreciate that when you are older, but I know you will want pictures too. We will try to do better. But know this, you are loved fiercely by everyone in this house. Even if there is not as much photographic evidence to prove it!

Peek a Boo

I love FaceTime! Today my daughter was able to play peek a boo with my parents from 900 miles away! Who says technology doesn't connect us?

I have a question

Apparently Adeline has lots of questions in her sleep...wonder what she's dreaming about?

May I have this dance?

Yesterday morning was a very sweet moment. Carter was doing her usual morning routine and listening to a bit of music. I was sitting in the chair holding Adeline. Carter came over and demanded to dance with her sister. She held Adeline and showed her how to dance. She held her hands and hugged her, it was the most adorable thing! I am thankful for this moment. I was blessed to be present!
